EMPORIA, Kan. – MSU Moorhead would see an All-American performance from
Ibrahim Oduong in the 400m to lead the Dragons on the first day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Ashley Hokanson and
Adnew Stueven would turn in solid efforts, but would ultimately see their historic careers conclude on Thursday.
Ashley Hokanson would lead off Dragon competition in the final pole vault event of her storied career. Hokanson would begin strong, clearing the initial height of 12-07.5 (3.85m) in two attempts. The senior would miss on three attempts at 13-1.5 (4.00m) and would finish in a tie for 13
th place, narrowly missing All-America status. Hokanson wraps an amazing career at MSUM and will go down as the greatest vaulter in school history. She concludes her career owning both school pole vault records and bolstering four All-America honors and five NSIC championships.
To kick off the running events,
Ibrahim Oduong would earn an All-America nod in the men's 400m. Oduong ran an impressive mark of 46.83, the second-best effort of his career to finish 11
th overall. The Bismarck, N.D., native narrowly missed qualifying for the finals in the event by .16 seconds. For Oduong, it earns him Second Team All-America status, marking his second career All-America distinction.
Shavantae Roberts would register a solid 11.83 in the women's 100m dash preliminaries for the Dragons. In a stacked field, Roberts would compete in the fastest heat and mark her seventh sub-12 second 100m this season. Roberts set the MSUM outdoor school record in the event on three different occasions in 2024.
To wrap the first day of competition.
Adnew Stueven would see his collegiate track & field career wrap up in the men's 3000m steeplechase. Stueven would get caught up in a mild skirmish at a hurdle, which hindered his performance in the race. The senior would register a time of 9:48.12 in the event. Stueven will still compete in cross country for the Dragons in the fall.
Braxton Bruer will be the lone Dragon competing on the second day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Bruer will run in the 800m preliminaries beginning at 6 p.m. from Emporia, Kansas.
