EMPORIA, Kan. -- MSU Moorhead's
Braxton Bruer concluded his historic Dragon career on Friday evening on day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Bruer finished ninth in the 800m to earn Second Team All-America distinction.
Bruer turned in an stellar race, clocking a 1:51 to finish fourth in his heat and seventh overall based on time. However, the advancing standards for the 800m were the top two competitors from each heat (three heats) and two additional competitors based on time. Bruer narrowly missed the cut by .18 seconds as the top two finishers in the first heat ran slower times than the senior. Never the less, Bruer earned his fourth All-America nod (second outdoor honor) with the ninth-place finish.
The West Fargo, N.D., native has enjoyed one of the greatest careers by a middle distance runner in MSUM history. Along with his All-America honors, Bruer is a five-time NSIC champion (four 800m crowns and one distance medley relay). He leaves MSUM possessing both the indoor and outdoor 800m school records as well as the school's indoor 600m record. He was also a member of the distance medley relay team that set a school record at the 2022 NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Bruer is a four-time USTFCCCA All-Region runner and was named the NSIC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year this season. He has continuously excelled in the classroom as well, being a multi-time member of the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence, the USTFCCA All-Academic Team and the CSC Academic All-District Team. Bruer was a CSC Third Team Academic All-American in 2022-23.
