FARGO, N.D. – MSU Moorhead track & field saw a successful conclusion to their 2023-24 regular season as numerous Dragons earned event wins at the NDSU Tune-Up. MSUM's efforts were headlined by a dominating performance from
Grace Dorsher and a meet record mark by
Ibrahim Oduong.
Sprints/Hurdles/Relays
Ibrahim Oduong and
Jerome Crayton would guide the Dragon sprints group with Oduong winning the men's 200m dash with a time of 21.71. The time is a new personal best for Oduong and becomes a new NDSU Tune-Up meet record. Crayton would also set a new personal best, finishing runner-up with a time of 21.76. The mark would have also been a meet record had it not been for Oduong's run.
Shavantae Roberts would turn in another solid mark in the 200m dash on the women's side. Roberts ran a 24.60 to finish fourth overall.
Braxton Bruer would compete in the 400m and win with a mark of 49.52. Fellow distance mate
Colin O'Farrell would also run in the 400m, clocking a 50.70 to finish in sixth place.
In men's 100m action,
Elkan Johnson would earn an eighth-place mark with a time of 11.44.
Brooke Baumann would clock a new personal best in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:09.83 to finish ninth overall.
To wrap the meet, MSUM's men's 4x400m team of Oduong, Crayton, Bruer and O'Farrell would win the event with a time of 3:20.06. The squad won by nearly four seconds.
Jumps/Vaults
In men's long jump,
David Daniels would place sixth overall with a top leap of 21-09.5 (6.64m).
Kade Larson would also finish sixth in men's triple jump with an effort of 42-01.25 (12.83m). In women's long jump,
McKenna Schreiber jumped a 16-07.25 (5.06m) to finish ninth. In the same event,
Ayden Ochs set a new personal record with a leap of 15-00.75 (4.59m).
Tyler Missick would earn a fourth-place result in men's high jump, clearing 6-05.5 (1.97m). In men's pole vault,
Nicholas Huss placed third with a top clearance of 13-00.25 (3.97m). On the women's side,
Sydney Bahls would also finish third with a clearing of 10-02 (3.10m).
Leya Teicher matched her personal best in the same event with a vault of 9-08 (2.95m).
Throws
Javelin and hammer throw would begin competition on Thursday as
Ty Ogren would register a season best throw of 173-10 (53m) to finish sixth overall. For Ogren, it is the ninth-best javelin throw in school history.
Isaac Friese would finish just behind Ogren with a throw of 171 (52.13m) to place seventh. In men's hammer throw,
Darius Sechen would have a top swing of 155-04 (47.36m) to finish runner-up.
In Friday in men's shot put,
Brennan Sellheim would collect a top throw of 45-06.25 (13.87m) to finish eighth. On the women's side,
Kiley Kranz would launch a 40-01.50 (12.23m) to place sixth. In the same event,
Janae LaFerriere would register a new personal best of 34-09 (10.59m) to place ninth.
Kranz would set a new personal best in the discus on Friday as well, hurling a 128-04 (39.13m) to earn a fifth-place finish.
Katelyn Zaiger would finish sixth in the same event with a top effort of 126-11 (38.68m). LaFerriere would earn her second personal best of the day in discus with a throw of 118-06 (36.13m).
Distance
Grace Dorsher would dominate the 3000m steeplechase on Friday, clocking a personal best 11:37.92 to win by nearly one full minute. Dorsher's time is now the fifth-fastest steeplechase in MSUM history. The time smashes Dorsher's previous personal record by over 42 seconds.
Abbie Christen would collect a runner-up finish in the women's 1500m run with a time of 5:04.86.
Will Massmann would place seventh in the 800m run with a mark of 2:03.89. In the same event on the women's side,
Katelyn Kennedy clocked a 2:30.64 to place ninth. Making his Dragon debut,
Chase Hoechst would earn a third-place finish in the men's 5000m run, marking a 15:53.67.

MSUM will now ready for the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Mankato, Minn. on May 9-11. Multis kickoff the competition on Thursday with events beginning at 1 p.m.
