INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – MSU Moorhead saw a pair of victories on the mats at the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Friday.
Ryan Henningson would begin his day looking sharp, collecting an opening-match pin over UNC Pembroke's Logan Robinson. Henningson was quick with his offense and was able to land Robinson on the mat at 2:42 of the first period.
Henningson only continued his strong day in his second match against Felician's Brian Melamud. The senior would be down 6-3 on the scoreboard before catching Melamud and flipping the advantage. It was not long after when Henningson got Melamud on the mat for another pin, this time at 2:45 of the first period. The victory clinched Henningson a spot in the 133-pound quarterfinals.
In his quarterfinal bout, Henningson would grind against Lander's Christian Davis, who entered the match with 31 wins. Henningson would keep pace on the scoreboard but would narrowly fall to Davis in a 12-10 decision. The Winona, Minn., product concluded his tournament against Gannon's Jeremiah Echevarria, falling in an 18-4 major decision.
Pedro Velazquez would see an injury harm his match with Ashland's Brock Durbin. The opening bout for the junior ended in a major decision for Durbin (12-0). Velazquez would fall to Minnesota State's Cole Hush by a 6-3 decision to conclude his tournament.
