PUEBLO, Colo. – Minnesota State Moorhead track & field saw two more All-American performances in men's high jump on Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Jasiah Hambira (First Team) and
Jaiden Peraza (Second Team) each earned the distinction for the Dragons.
Both competitors came into the championships as the 'last men in', but both would quickly clear the opening height of 6-07.5 (2.02m). Peraza would need only one attempt at
6-09.5 (2.07m) before clearing the height and advancing to the next round. While Hambira would narrowly miss his first try at the same height, he would successfully go over the bar in his second attempt. The clearances secured at least Second Team All-America honors for both as well.
Peraza would not be able to clear 6-11.5 (2.12m) but would still be able to earn a ninth-place finish after featuring less failures. The finish for Peraza earns him Second Team All-America honors, the first of his Dragon career. The junior is now a three-time All-American between the NAIA and NCAA levels.
Hambira was faced with one final attempt at the same height after missing in his prior two attempts. The sophomore would propel himself over the bar in his final try, securing a new personal best at 2.12m. Hambira's effort now stands alone as the second-best outdoor high jump in MSUM history.
Following the round, Hambira sat in eighth place, assuring him First Team All-America honors, the first of his career. Overall, it is Hambira's second All-America nod in high jump after earning Second Team honors at Minot State last season. The Arlington, Wash., native would miss three attempts at 7-0.5 (2.15m), which would have tied the outdoor school record.
Nevertheless, Hambira would finish in eighth place overall after entering the event ranked in a tie for 22
nd with Peraza. In total, MSUM completes the NCAA Championships with three All-Americans after
Shavantae Roberts earned Second Team distinction on Thursday.
