WEST FARGO, N.D. -- Minnesota State Moorhead swimming & diving concluded action at the annual Dragon Invite. The Dragons placed second as a team with a score of 1153.
Sophia Verke would open the morning with an event win in the 200-yard freestyle, marking a time of 1:59.65.
Anika Grunenwald would place seventh in the same race behind a time of 2:06.14. In the 100-yard backstroke,
Kelsey Jackson would lead Moorhead, earning a runner-up finish with a time of 1:01.61.
Joanna Phillips and
Lacie Stark would tie for sixth place in the same event at 1:04.65.
In the 100-yard breaststroke,
Rose Urick would collect third-place marks, swimming a 1:09.93.
Haley Stainbrook (1:19.24) and
Sarah Coe (1:19.76) would place eighth and ninth respectively. Moorhead would see an event win in the 200-yard butterfly in the form of sophomore
Fernanda Leon. The Lima, Peru, native clocked a 2:12.33 to pick up the event win.
Cami Mayo earned sixth-place marks in the same event, marking a 2:29.97. In distance work,
Claire Schlaefer would finish runner-up in the 1650-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 20:41.87.
Maggie Moore would lead the Dragons in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing third with a time of 25.21. Verke would place fourth with a time of 25.26 while
Tresa Baumgard place sixth behind a time of 26. Leon would place third in the 200-yard IM, clocking a 2:16.02 while
Ruth Pavelski placed seventh behind a time of 2:19.60. Jackson would finish just behind Pavelski at 2:21.40. Leon would also place runner-up in the 100-yard IM, swimming a 1:03.24 with Pavelski placing fifth with a mark of 1:03.98.
Grunenwald was MSUM's top finisher in the 500-yard freestyle, placing third with a time of 5:38.69. Mayo would place eighth behind a time of 5:53.89, a season best. Jackson would grab an event win the 50-yard freestyle, swimming a 28.12 for the placement. Stark would earn fourth-place marks in the same event, swimming a 29.69. Urick earned third-place marks in the 50-yard breaststroke, clocking a 33.01. Pavelski (27.43) and Leon (27.67) would place third and fourth respectively in the 50-yard fly. In the 100-yard freestyle, Verke would place runner-up behind a time of 55.49 with Moore placing fourth, swimming a 56.19. Phillips (58.20) and Coe (58.82) would place eighth and 10th respectively.
On the diving board,
Isabelle Johnson would lead the Dragons again, winning 3-meter competition with an overall score of 370.49.
Zoe Bjerke placed runner-up with a score of 351.90 while
Ruth Guy (332.40) and
Kennedy Olson (320.90) placed fifth and sixth respectively.
In relays, Moorhead would win the 400-yard medley relay as the team of Jackson, Urick, Leon and Verke would pace a 4:06.48. The team of Stark, Mayo, Pavelski and Moore placed fifth with a time of 4:18.27. The Dragons would also win the 400-yard freestyle relay to conclude the meet as the quartet of Moore, Leon, Pavelski and Verke clocked a 3:42.76. Moorhead's team of Baumgard, Phillips, Mayo and Grunenwald placed sixth with a time of 3:54.69.
