MSUM Wrestling Hosts Mustangs, Cobbers This Week

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead wrestling has a pair of home duals on the docket this week. The Dragons host Southwest Minnesota State on Friday in an NSIC dual scheduled for 6 p.m. On Saturday, Moorhead will host Concordia College in a dual scheduled for 3 p.m.

Live video and results will be available at msumdragons.com. Moorhead last competed in NSIC dual action against Northern State on January 15, falling 35-12.

Dual History...The Dragons snapped a six-dual losing streak to the Mustangs last season in Moorhead, winning 30-10. Prior to last season, MSUM had not defeated the Mustangs in dual action since February 10, 2018. The Dragons claimed seven of 10 matches in last year's meeting. MSUM also ended a three-dual skid to the Cobbers last season in their meeting inside Memorial Auditorium. Moorhead won 28-13, winning six of 10 matches in the dual.

Babitt Keeps Rolling...Sophomore heavyweight Liam Babitt collected another impressive victory against Northern State last Thursday. Babitt almost immediately grabbed a takedown on Ayden Viox to establish a lead. The Soldotna, Ala., native would then earn another takedown to expand his advantage. Babitt racked up over four minutes of riding time in the 7-1 decision victory. For Babitt, it was his 14th win of the season.

Syko Mode...Junior 174-pounder Anthony Sykora brought the Nemzek Fieldhouse crowd to its feet on Thursday against Northern State. The Hoffman, Minn., native earned a pin at 4:45 over Mason Fey. Sykora would collect a takedown in the first period and would use some strong chain wrestling to secure the fall late in the second period. The victory was Sykora's eighth of the season.

Welcome Back JT...Senior 157-pounder Jacob Thomas missed some time due to illness, but immediately found his footing against Northern State. Thomas would grab MSUM's first victory of the dual in a decision over Griffin Lundeen. Thomas earned a takedown early against Lundeen and would be able to ride those three points to victory.

By The Numbers...The sophomore Babitt continues to lead the Dragons in overall victories with 14 as well as wins via fall with five. Senior 141-pounder Pedro Velazquez and senior 197-pounder Wyatt Powell each hold 10 wins for Moorhead this season. Velazquez holds a team-high four major decisions while Powell leads the Dragons with four victories via technical fall.
