Parker Benz celebrates following a 26-second pin against Concordia College

Explosive Offense Leads Moorhead to Victory over Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minnesota State Moorhead wrestling used early, explosive offense to claim a dual with Eighth Street rival Concordia College on Saturday. The Dragons defeated the Cobbers, 35-13. 
 
Clayson Mele would jumpstart the Dragons to begin the dual, earning a swift takedown of Jeison Ingram. Mele would get Ingram's shoulders on the mat at 1:21 for a pin and six team points. After Concordia earned a fall at 133 pounds, the teams were tied at six points each. 
 
The Dragons would hit on a three-match winning streak from there, sparked by a 17-4 major decision for Pedro Velazquez. The senior tallied over three minutes of riding time on Jack Major to earn a bonus point. Parker Benz would be quick to his offense at 149 pounds, quickly taking down Aidan Ruddy and eventually pinning him 26 seconds into the match. Jacob Thomas would use a strong takedown to secure a 6-4 decision at 157 pounds. 
 
It was Anthony Sykora who would get the Dragons rolling again at 174 pounds, collecting 19 points in a technical fall victory. Sykora was consistent in his attack, tallying takedown after takedown on Nate Kisgen. Edon Davis would turn in another strong match at 184 pounds, scoring a 21-3 technical fall victory over Aiden Russell. 
 
To wrap the dual, Liam Babitt found himself wrestling from behind against Mason Swanson. The Cobber heavyweight, who is ranked 13th in Division III would secure a first-period takedown. Babitt would use a pair of escapes to come within one point before the sophomore took over. The Soldotna, Alaska, product would take down Swanson, eventually turning him for a fall at 4:43 in the second period.
