WAYNE, Neb. - One night after Minnesota State University Moorhead came up with a huge win over Augustana, the Dragons suffered a four-set loss to the No. 19 Wayne State Wildcats.
The Dragons seemed a little sluggish after their hard-fought win last night, but still had gusto on defense as they picked up 69 digs and had eight total blocks. It was not enough as the Wildcats out-hit the dragons .242 to .190 and also had three more digs and two more blocks than the Red and White.
Freshman
Heidi Lensing had 14 kills in the match, leading the team. But, Wayne's Talia Fredrickson and Leah Hartigan were too much for MSUM to handle as the duo combined for 31 kills of the team's 54.
The Dragon's defense was led in the backrow by
Katy Ness who had 18 digs while
Andrea Rachel trailed her with 16.
Ashley Pyfferoen also impacted the Warriors' attacks as she picked up 11 digs.
The net defense was big for MSUM as
Laura Tvrdik led the force with one solo and four assisted blocks. She also had 10 kills in the match.
Kristen Kleven had one solo block and assisted with three.
MSUM played with a primary setter for the first time in four matches as
Leigh Splittstoesser played the full rotation putting up 37 assists in the match. She also registered eight digs and four kills.
The Dragons will host Northern State in continued conference action. The match will begin at 7 p.m. at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
