Dragon Softball Splits Day Two of Cocoa Beach Classic

TITUSVILLE, Fla. - The MInnesota State University Moorhead Dragon softball team split action on day two of the Cocoa Beach Classic on Monday as they took a 4-2 loss against Huntington (Ind.) and a big 10-4 win over Greenville (Ill.). 

Mara Litzer was right on for the Dragons on the day as she went 4-for-6 from the plate and pitched a complete game against Huntingon. On offense, she had one double, three singles, three RBI and a stolen base. From the mound, Litzer picked up eight strikeouts while giving up six hits. She suffered the loss against HU.

Molly Keeler also picked up four hits on the day, which included a home run and four RBI. Amanda Hoefer, Steeli Norton and Miranda Bronson each had three hits.

In game one, the Dragons went down 4-0 in the third inning and could not recover, although they put up two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jessica Hollis and Jessica Mroz tallied the runs for MSUM.

In game two, the Dragons went up early as Katie Howland scored after leading off the game with a walk. She was knocked in on a single up the middle by Hoefer.

Four more runs came in the second inning, starting with Simone Parcells going around the bases and scoring on a single up the middle by Bronson. Keeler hit her home run over the left field fence after Bronson's hit, scoring both baserunners.

The insurance run was tacked on in the fourth inning as Hoefer came across the plate on a single by Litzer.

The Dragons will face Greenville on Tuesday at 9 a.m. (EST).
