MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field teams have a busy weekend with athletes competing in three different events. The Dragons will send athletes to the Iowa State Classic, which will be held Friday and Saturday in Ames, Iowa, and also to the Bison Open hosted by North Dakota State on Saturday in Fargo, N.D.
In addition, MSUM will begin competition at the first part of the NSIC Indoor Championships, as the heptathlon and decathlon will be held on Sunday and Monday at Myers Fieldhouse in Mankato, Minn. The remaining large porition of the NSIC Indoor Championships will be held on Feb. 22-23.
Last Time Out: Dragon teams each went 5-1 at the Cobber Duals last weekend.
The Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field teams each finished with 5-1 records at the Cobber Duals hosted by Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday in Moorhead, Minn.
The Dragon women won seven events, including the distance medley relay, while the men won three events.
For the women, senior
Heather Schultz set a new school record and personal best in capturing the shot put with a throw of 46-0 1/2, topping her previous best by four inches. She was second in the weight throw at 48-5 1/2. Sophomore
Mary Tanoe won the 60 meters at 8.05, with freshman teammate
Jasmine Nelson taking third at 8.38 and freshman
Molly Strong taking fourth at 8.43.
Freshman
Alissa Mears won the 600 meters at 1:42.0 with freshman
Rebecca Macey taking fourth at 1:44.30. Freshman
Emily Mammenga won the 800 meters at 2:20.30. Freshman
Molly Montonye was first in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:36.19, while sophomore
Savannah Link won the 3,000 meters at 10:56.15 with junior
Kelly Brammer taking fourth at 11:08.11. Freshman
Sarah Knight won the pole vault at 10-7.
MSUM's distance medley relay won with a time of 12:48.67. That consisted of Mammenga, Macey, Mears and Montonye.
For the second straight week, senior
Derek Bredy set a new Olson Forum record in the 200 meters at 21.72. Senior
Laquone Robinson won the long jump at 22-4 1/2, while junior
Keith Turner won the 600 meters at 1:24.23.
