MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team ran into the No. 2-ranked team in the nation on Thursday and fell short, dropping a 45-0 decision to St. Cloud State in Nortehrn Sun Intercollegiate Conference action in St. Cloud, Minn.
MSUM fell to 4-5 overall and 0-4 in the NSIC with the loss while St. Cloud State, ranked No. 2 in the latest Division II poll, improved to 14-2 overall and 5-0 in the league.
Boasting a lineup which included five nationally-ranked wrestlers, the Huskies recorded three wins by fall and two wins by technical fall on their way to the win.
The closest match of the night for MSUM came at 133 pounds, where St. Cloud State's Mike Rhone, who is ranked No. 6 in the nation in that class, battled Dragon sophomore
Blake Bosch, who is ranked No. 8. The match went down to the wire before Rhone prevailed.
Senior
Michael Joseph also battled tough at 174 pounds for MSUM before falling to SCSU's Clayton Jennissen, 4-2. At 184, MSUM senior
Shawn Porter also hung tough against St. Cloud State's Dylon Braun before losing a 14-10 decision.
Next action for the Dragons is at Minot State on Thursday, Feb. 12. The dual begins at 7 p.m. in Minot, N.D.
