MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team lost to conference rival and No. 1-ranked St. Cloud State 45-0 on Thursday night at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
The Dragons are now 1-7 and 0-5 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while St. Cloud State is now 16-0 overall and 5-0 in the league.
The dual started at 125 pounds, where Dragon freshman
Cole Jones battled tough against No. 5 Brett Velasquez, but Velasquez was able to pull out an 8-5 decision.
Dragon junior
Weston Dobler nearly won his match at 165 pounds, but a late takedown by St. Cloud's Devin Fitzpatrick sealed the deal in a 3-2 victory.
Redshirt freshman
Mitch Kotschevar held tight in his match against St. Cloud's Brady Nelson, but he ended up losing 10-4 to extend the Husky lead to 33-0. The Huskies, who have eight wrestlers ranked in the top 10 in the nation on their squad, would go on to win the final two matches by fall to end the night.
The Dragons will be back in action on Saturday night when they travel to Aberdeen, S.D. to face the Northern State Wolves. They will be back at home on Feb. 10 when they host the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs.
