PIERZ, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team got a win from junior
Jordan Magnuson at 285 but fell to No. 1 St. Cloud State in a dual, 38-3 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Thursday night at Pierz High School in Pierz, Minn.
SCSU improved to 13-0 overall and 5-0 in the NSIC with the win while MSUM fell to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in the league.
Using a lineup that featured five nationally-ranked wrestlers, the Huskies recorded bonus points at four classes, including a pin and two technical falls, and got a forfeit win at 133 on their way to the victory.
"Our guys fought hard and put forth a good effort," MSUM head coach
Kris Nelson said. "Overall the staff thought our fight was better than our last dual against Upper Iowa. We are making adjustments in the room and hope to improve daily as we approach the regional tournament."
Magnuson improved to 9-4 on the year with a hard-fought 3-1 win over SCSU's Tyler Hugg to account for the Dragons' points in the dual.
MSUM lost close matches at 149, where No. 2 James Pleski edged
Zach Scott 1-0, and at 165, where Devin Donovan topped Dragon sophomore
Braydon Ortloff 8-5.
The Dragons are off until Feb. 6 when the compete at Minnesota State, Mankato.
