MOORHEAD, Minn. — Junior Braydon Ortloff opened with a win but No. 20 Upper Iowa won the next nine matches to earn a 38-4 win over No. 25 Minnesota State University Moorhead in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wrestling Thursday night in Moorhead, Minn.
MSUM fell to 0-2 overall and in the NSIC while Upper Iowa improved to 1-1 overall and in the league.
Ortloff Opens With Big Win
The dual started at 165 and MSUM junior Braydon Ortloff erased a deficit to score a major decision win over Upper Iowa's Scott Kellenberger.
Ortloff was down 6-2 in the second but scored a takedown and got four back points late in the frame to take an 8-6 lead into the final frame.
From there, he controlled the match, getting more back points and another takedown to push the lead to 15-6 on his way to a major decision. He is now 2-0 on the season.
Upper Iowa Streak
After Ortloff's win at 165, Upper Iowa grabbed the momentum, winning the next nine matches, including by fall at 197 and 133, by technical fall at 157 and two by major decision at (184 and 285) to surge into a commanding lead on its way to a 38-4 win in the dual.
Close Calls
Junior Evan Foster was down 5-2 at 174 pounds but scored an escape and then a takedown to tie the match at 5-5 before No. 12 ranked Myron Crawford scored an escape seconds later to record the win.
Freshman Angel Rios also battled tough at 149 for MSUM. He was down 4-2 late in the third to Chance Throndson before scoring the takedown to send the match to overtime. Throndson prevailed by a 6-5 count in overtime.
Exhibition wins
Freshman Gage Roaldson (174 and 184) won both of his exhibitions for MSUM.

MSUM is on the road the next two weeks, starting Jan. 21 at UMary. The dual is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Bismarck, N.D.
