FARGO, N.D. — Junior Chris Cook recorded an NCAA provisional jump in the high jump to lead the Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field teams at the North Dakota State Spring Classic on Friday in Fargo, N.D. The meet was the outdoor debut for MSUM.
Cook won the high jump with a height of 6-9, which is an NCAA provisional mark and one that is best in the NSIC this season as of Friday. Sophomore Shyrone Kemp was third at 6-5 which was the second-best jump in the league this season.
Senior Nadir Yusuf was second in the 1,500 at 3:56.88. MSUM's 4x400 relay, consisting of sophomore Kory Powell-Oliver, junior Shaquiel Higgs, junior Richard Brown III and freshman Dan Ratzloff, was second at 3:25.53.
Sophomore Kendrick Major was second in the 400 at 50.91 with Ibrahim Oduong third at 51.30. Freshman Amelio Chio was second in the 5,000 meters at 16:01.90.
Powell-Oliver was second in the 100 with a time of 10.94 with Higgs right behind at 10.94. Richard Brown III was third in the triple jump at 43-2 1/4 and fourth in the long jump at 21-10 3/4. Sophomore Braxton Bruer was fourth in the 800 at 1:55.52
For the Dragon women, freshman Robynn Curry was second in the 400 at 59.79. Senior Rachel Schumacher was fourth in the high jump at 5-3 1/4 which as of Friday. Junior Anna Steadland was fourth in the 100 at 12.24.
Sophomore Steena Larsen threw a 140-3 in the discus which is a personal-best and third best in MSUM history. Sophomore McKenzie Maki was fourth in the 800 at 2:23.01.
MSUM's next competition is set for April 9-10 at the South Dakota Challenge in Vermillion, S.D.
