DULUTH, Minn. — Senior Nadir Yusuf won his second title of the weekend while junior Shyrone Kemp won the triple jump to lead the Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field teams at the final day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships. The Dragon men finished a solid fourth while the women finished 14th.
Yusuf's outstanding weekend was capped off by a win in the 5,000-meter run. He set a new MSUM school record and meet record with a time of 14:19.51. That time is an NCAA provisional mark. Yusuf also set a new meet record in winning the 10K on Friday. He now has five NSIC track titles in his career.
Kemp won the triple jump with a mark of 49-3 3/4, which he accomplished on his fourth attempt. He has three NSIC titles in his Dragon career.
Sophomore Braxton Bruer was fourth in the 800 with a time of 1:55.66, missing an all-conference spot by just .44 seconds. Senior Clay Jackson was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.09.
MSUM's 4x100 relay, consisting of sophomore Kory-Oliver Powell, junior Shaquiel Higgs, Kemp and Jackson, was fourth in 41.96. That was a season-best time.
MSUM's 4x400 relay was eighth in 3:21.49. That consisted of freshman Ibrahim Oduong, Bruer, freshman Sam Morgenstern and sophomore Eric Gibbons.
Freshman Payton Lane was sixth in the women's 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 17:27.52, shattering her previous PR. Freshman Robynn Curry was seventh in the 400 in 56.55.
MSUM will now learn its national qualifiers on Tuesday.
