MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team led 13-10 after six weights, but No. 21 Northern State rallied for a 21-18 dual win over the Dragons in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Sunday in Moorhead.
MSUM fell to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the NSIC while Northern State improved to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the league.
The Dragons were down 3-0 after 125 but junior
Cole Jones put the Dragons in front with a pin of Northern's Ty Althoff in 5:46 at 133. That gave the Dragons a 6-3 lead.
Sophomore
Hunter Hayes pushed the Dragon lead to 9-3 with a 7-5 win over Northern's Robert Coyle III at 141. The Wolves won the next two matches, including by major decision at 149, to take a 10-9 lead.
Senior
Braydon Ortloff put the Dragons back in front with a 13-4 major decision win over Northern's Tyson Stoebner at 165 to give the Dragons a 13-10 lead.
The Wolves won a tight match at 174 as Kelby Hawkins edged MSUM's
Justin Dravis 9-8, and then added a win at 184 and a pin at 197 to build a 21-12 lead.
MSUM won by forfeit at 285 and the final score was 285.
The Dragons host Augustana on Jan. 29 at 2 p.m.
