LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. -- The MSU Moorhead women's golf team opened their spring season at the SMSU Spring Classic on Monday and Tuesday. The Dragons finished in eighth place as a team, coming in with a total score of 747.

The Arizona-based tournament featured some stiff competition in Division I teams Lehigh and Bucknell. The Mountain Hawks won the tournament outright by 22 strokes. The Dragons and host Southwest Minnesota State were the only NSIC representation.

On day one, MSUM shot an opening round 381 as a team before trimming their day two total by 15 strokes to shoot a 366 overall. Madison Braun led the Dragons with strong rounds on both days. Braun shot a 92 to open the tournament before improving to an 89 in round two. The senior nailed in 10 pars over her two rounds. Fellow senior Meghan McBride also turned in a nice scorecard for the tournament, finishing two strokes behind Braun following a 92 in round two. McBride had nine pars across the tournament and collected a pair of birdies. She birdied a 350-yard par four on day one before nabbing a birdie on the par five fifth hole at Wigwam Blue Course. That hole was 497 yards in total.

Ady Tysdal also birdied twice across the weekend and improved her score by six strokes on day two to shoot a 91. Halle Balluff and Charmaine Haas both remained consistent over two rounds playing as individuals.
