TAMPA, Fla. –
Shyrone Kemp won the triple jump while four Dragon sprinters came out of the gate strong as MSU Moorhead opened their 2023 outdoor season at the South Florida Invitational.
The Dragons sent just five student-athletes to the invite, which was hosted by the University of South Florida.
Sprints/Relays
The four Dragons running today included
Ibrahim Oduong,
Kendrick Major,
Elliott MacLennan and
Ty Dawkins. All four competed as a team in the 4x400m relay, taking runner-up honors with a time of 3:14.28, finishing over a second behind the eventual winners in South Florida.
Dawkins ran an 11.06 in his other event of the day, the 100m dash. Oduong, Major and MacLennan all competed in the 400m to round out their days.
Oduong placed fourth in the 400m with a time of 47.90 while MacLennan finished eighth with a time of 48.48. Oduong's time is the third fastest 400m time in school history. Major placed 14
th with a time of 49.47.
Jumps
Shyrone Kemp won the men's triple jump to open his outdoor season. Kemp leaped a 48'-04.75" to win the event by over two feet. Kemp also took home runner-up honors in the men's long jump with a top mark of 24'-04.5" to begin his outdoor season. Both marks are NCAA qualifying jumps.
