Roberts Clocks 100m Record to Lead MSUM at USD Early Bird

VERMILLION, S.D. – MSU Moorhead sophomore sprinter Shavantae Roberts would reset MSUM's outdoor 100m school record to lead the Dragons in the inaugural meet of the outdoor season, the USD Early Bird. Ashley Hokanson rebroke her own outdoor pole vault school record for the Dragons as well. 
 
Sprints/Hurdles
 
In the women's 100m, Shavantae Roberts would begin her outdoor season in style, marking an 11.75 to finish fourth overall and win her heat. Roberts' time is an NCAA provisional mark and is now the new MSUM school record. Roberts surpasses the 11.79 set by multi-time All-American Ann Kiecker in 1988. Desiree Loyd would run a solid 12.76 in the same race. 
 
Roberts would run a 25.21 in the 200m later in the afternoon, finishing fifth overall. Elliott MacLennan would finish 10th overall in the same event with a 22.59 finishing time. Ibrahim Oduong would finish just behind MacLennan with a mark of 22.67 to place 15th overall. 
 
Jerome Crayton would run in the men's 400m for the first time in outdoor competition and would clock a 50.31 to finish sixth overall. Frosty Wisnewski would run in the same event, clocking a 54.61. In the men's 100m, Elkan Johnson would set a new outdoor personal best with a time of 11.41. David Daniels would do the same with an 11.11 mark. 
 
Jumps/Vaults
 
In women's pole vault, which finished late on Saturday night, Ashley Hokanson reset the MSUM school record with a 13-11.25 (4.25m) to finish fourth overall. The mark tops Hokanson's old record of 13-09 (4.19m) set at last year's USD Early Bird. For Hokanson, it is an NCAA provisional mark and is the second-best pole vault in Division II this year. 

On Friday, Nicholas Huss would set a new outdoor personal best with a top clearance of 13-11.75 (4.26m) overcoming his previous best of 12-06 (3.81m). Huss finished third overall in his flight on Friday. On the women's side, Sydney Bahls would return to action and clear 9-04.25 (2.85m) to finish 15th overall. 
 
David Daniels would set a new outdoor personal best in Saturday's long jump competition with a top mark of 21-10 (6.65m) to finish 14th overall. Tyler Missick would place fifth in Saturday's high jump with a clearance of 6-04.75 (1.95m). Loyd would also compete in women's high jump, clearing 5-01 (1.55m) to finish eighth overall. 
 
Mickalyn Babcock would earn a top ten finish in women's long jump with a personal best effort of 16-11.5 (5.17m). McKenna Schreiber would begin her outdoor campaign with a 16-0.5 (4.89m) in the same event. 
 
Throws
 
In Friday's discus throw, Kiley Kranz would begin her outdoor season with a top mark of 112-02 (34.20m). Darius Sechen would begin his outdoor season with a 134-07 (41.02m) in men's hammer throw. Sam Azure would finish in 18th place in Friday's women's javelin with a throw of 103-08 (31.61m). 
 
Kranz would also compete in Saturday's shot put, finishing 14th overall with a top throw of 38-9.5 (11.82m). Katelyn Zaiger would set a new personal best in hammer throw on Saturday with a top throw of 132-11 (40.52m).
 
In men's javelin, Isaac Friese would turn in a great debut effort, throwing a 185-05 (56.63m) to finish fourth overall. For Friese, it is now the sixth-longest javelin throw in school history. Ty Ogren would turn in a solid performance as well, finishing 11th with a throw of 162-03 (48.47m). 
 
Distance
 
Adnew Stueven would kick off his outdoor season with a solid outing in the men's 3000m steeplechase on Friday afternoon. Stueven would clock a 9:14.55 to win his heat and the event overall by over nine seconds. The time for Stueven was nearly two seconds off an NCAA provisional mark and is the 20th-fastest 3000m steeplechase in Division II this year. 
 
Also on Friday, Braxton Bruer would run an NCAA provisional time in the men's 800m with a mark of 1:51.11 to finish runner-up in his heat. Bruer's time is also the 10th-fastest in Division II so far this season. In the same heat, a returning Jared Gregoire would clock a 1:53.69 while Colin O'Farrell would run a personal best time of 1:54.87. 
 
On the women's side, Katelyn Kennedy would compete for the first time in her collegiate track & field career and clock a 2:28.87 in the 800m. Kennedy would also run the 1500m, finishing with a time of 5:16.31. In the men's 1500m, O'Farrell would finish 10th overall in his first time running the event collegiately. The sophomore finished with a mark of 4:00.78.
 
In Friday's 5000m run, Abbie Christen would register a new personal best with a mark of 19:15.72 to finish amongst the top 25 of nearly 50 competitors. Grace Dorsher would finish just ahead of Christen with a time of 19:10.83. On the men's side, James Dorado would finish third overall in the event with a time of 15:13.89. Joel Brault would run a 16:01.61 in the same race to finish 17th amongst 42 competitors. 
 
Relays
 
To begin competition on Saturday, the 4x100m team of Roberts, Loyd, Schreiber, and Babcock would finish sixth with a time of 50.35. On the men's side, the team of Daniels, Crayton, MacLennan and Oduong would run a 42.92 to also finish sixth. 
 
To close the meet, the 4x400m team of MacLennan, Oduong, Wisnewski and Crayton would run a 3:26.95 to finish third overall.

MSUM will compete next in a host of meets as a small contingent of Dragons will travel to California for the Bryan Clay and Pacific Coast Invitationals. Dragons will also be competing in Jamestown, N.D., at the Al Cassel Classic on Friday, April 12.
