MSUM Track & Field Readies for NSIC Indoor Championships

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead track & field is set to compete at the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships which begin February 27 in Mankato, Minn. Events are scheduled to run through February 28.

Throwers Take Center Stage...Moorhead last competed at the UND Tune-Up last Friday which saw the Dragon throwers take center stage. Kiley Kranz paced the Dragons in Friday's women's weight throw, earning a fifth-place finish. The junior had a personal best toss of 48-11.75 (14.93m), which is the seventh-best performance in program history.  In men's shot put action, Justin Jacobson would have a top throw of 53-04.50 (16.27m) to place fifth. Landon Nicholas (13.14m) would place 10th with a personal best effort while Jack Stewart (13.09m) placed 11th

The NSIC Meet...The NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships will kick off with several preliminary heats on Friday morning. Day one will see finals in the 5000m and distance medley relay. In field events, Friday will see preliminary and finals of pole vault, long jump, weight throw and women's high jump. The men's heptathlon will take place across both days with the women's pentathlon occurring on Saturday. Day two will see finals heats based on Friday's preliminary action. The top three finishers and relay teams in each event are noted as All-NSIC.

Last Time In Brookings...The remainder of MSUM's team last competed at the SDSU Indoor Classic on February 13-14. Sophomore Allysah Larson turned in another strong outing at the meet for Moorhead. In women's triple jump, Larson set another personal best for Moorhead. Larson finished fourth overall with a leap of 38-07.75 (11.78m). The mark is an NCAA provisional jump and is the second-best indoor triple jump in MSUM history. Redshirt junior Jared Gregoire earned NSIC Track Athlete of the Week honors after a record-setting weekend at the SDSU Indoor Classic. On Saturday, Gregoire set a new school record in the mile run with a time of 4:00.37, winning the event. The mark for Gregoire was a new meet record and smashed the MSUM record by nearly five seconds. His time currently sits as the 11th-fastest in NCAA Division II this season. 

NCAA Provisionals...Moorhead has tallied several NCAA provisional marks so far this season with mutlipe Dragons nearing qualification for the NCAA Indoor Championships. MSUM has seen NCAA provisional showings from Larson (triple jump), Gregore (mile/800m), Jacobson (shot put), Brandon Pemberton (200m), Jaiden Peraza (high jump), Jasiah Hambira (high jump), Rollie Hanna (triple jump) and Shavantae Roberts (60m).

Dragons In The Rankings...Moorhead's men are ranked 11th in the Central Region this week per the USTFCCCA's indoor checkpoint. The Dragons earned 74.39 points in a poll topped by Pittsburg State. MSUM's women come in 23rd in the region this week in a rankings index that was also led by Pitt State.
