DULUTH, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead sophomore
Chris Cook won the men's high jump title to lead the way for the Dragons at the opening day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships Friday in Duluth, Minn. A total of five Dragons earned All-NSIC honors on the day.
The Dragon men are in fourth place with 33 points after the opening day while the women are in eighth with 14.5.
Cook, also the NSIC indoor champion in the high jump, won the event on Friday with a jump of 6-8 3/4. That isn't far from his outdoor PR of 6-11 1/2 he attained at the Drake Relays in April. Cook was closely followed by freshman teammate
Shyrone Kemp, who finished second at 6-7 1/2. With those two finishes, MSUM scored 18 points in the event.
Junior
Nadir Yusuf was second in the 10,000 meters in 30:42.56 to score eight team points for MSUM and earn All-NSIC honors in that event.
Sophomore
Logan Storm continued to have a good season in the pole vault for MSUM, taking third at 15-2 3/4 and earning All-NSIC honors.
For the Dragon women, sophomore
Anna St. Catherine picked up All-NSIC honors in the pole vault, taking third at 11-0 1/4. It is the first all-conference honor of her career.
Also for the women, junior
Kathryn Sistrunk was fifth in the 10,000 meters in 37:32.69. The Dragon women already had five team points from junior
Summer Storm's fifth-place finish in the heptathlon in April.
For the men, junior
Tanner Berby was eighth in the men's hammer throw at 160-9.
Prelims
Freshman
Shaquiel Higgs advanced to the finals in two events. He was fifth in the 200 prelims in 21.84 and was eighth in the 100-meter dash prelims in 10.83. Junior
Nick Marshall advanced to the finals of the 1,500 meters after running a prelim time of 4:04.43.
Day 2 of competition begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Duluth.
