MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State Moorhead track & field began competition at the NSIC Indoor Championships on Friday. The Dragons were led by an NSIC championship men's distance medley relay performance.
Moorhead's men sit in third place in the team standings while the Dragon women are in 12
th place.
Multis
Hunter Miller and
David Herath would open action at the meet for the Dragons in the men's heptathlon. Miller would clock a 7.07 in the 60m dash to place second overall with Herath running a 7.49. The junior Miller would place fourth in the long jump with a personal best effort of 22-0.75 (6.72m). Miller would register another personal best in the shot put portion, hurling a 39-05 (12.01m) to place sixth. Herath had a top mark of 34-10.25 (10.62m).
Miller jumped a season best 6-02.25 (1.89m) in the high jump to place fourth overall. With three events left to be contested on Saturday, Miller sits in third place with a score of 2918. Herath is in 14
th place with 2150 points.
Sprints/Hurdles
In the women's 400m preliminaries,
Christalea Wagner placed 10
th with a sprint of 59.18.
Cipriana Jones would continue to improve in the 60m preliminaries, clocking a personal best 7.74. For Jones, the mark moves her to fourth all-time in MSUM history. On the men's side,
Isaiah Tandoh (6.91) and
Brandon Pemberton (6.95) would qualify for Saturday's final heat.
Jones would be Moorhead's top finisher in the women's 200m, placing 13
th behind a sprint of 25.75.
Brihonne Cargill (25.88) would set another new personal best in the same preliminaries. Pemberton would earn a spot in tomorrow's finals on the men's side, clocking a 22.13. Tandoh (22.48) would place 13
th in the same event.
Jumps/Vaults
Jaiden Peraza would collect All-NSIC honors in men's long jump with a third-place finish. Peraza, who did not compete in long jump during the regular season, marked a personal best 23-11.85 (7.31m). The mark ranks fifth all-time in program history and is an NCAA provisional performance.
Allysah Larson would also see a strong outing on the women's side, placing seventh behind a personal best leap of 18-07 (5.66m). That mark is the third-best in Moorhead history.
Noah Novotny would lead the Dragons in men's pole vault, marking a personal best clearance of 15-04.25 (4.68m). Novotny placed eighth overall with his mark now standing as the seventh-best in MSUM history.
Leya Teicher (3.31m) would lead the Dragon women, placing 13
th overall while
Ryen Ness (3.16m) cleared a new personal best.
Hunter Petersen would be the top Dragon in women's high jump, clearing 5-01 (1.55m) for an 11
th-place finish.
Throws
Justin Jacobson would see an eighth-place finish in men's weight throw, tossing a 57-02 (17.42m).
Ben Nyreen (16.26m) and
Jack Stewart (16.17m) each launched new personal bests in the same event. Nyreen's mark is the eighth-best in program history while Stewart now ranks 10
th all-time in the event.
Distance/Relays
In the men's 5000m final,
Chase Hoechst would narrowly miss out on All-NSIC distinction, clocking a 14:51.09 to place fourth.
Lander Lahtinen would earn eighth-place marks in the same event behind a season-best effort of 15:17.56. Senior
James Dorado would finish 16
th behind a time of 15:34.67.
Colin O'Farrell would pace the Dragons in the men's 800m prelims, marking a 1:56.48 to place second.
Jared Gregoire would also qualify for tomorrow's final heat, clocking a 1:56.71. The Moorhead men also qualified a pair of finalists in the 1000m run with
Jadon Boots (2:31.92) and
Ivar Martell (2:32.06) earning spots.
Logan Martinez (2:36.07) and
Will Massmann (2:37.61) would place 11
th and 12
th respectively.
To conclude the first day, MSUM's distance medley relay quartet of Boots,
Frosty Wisnewski, O'Farell and Gregoire would capture an NSIC championship. The team crossed the line at 10:08.19. Moorhead's women's team of
Emma Jamison,
Brooke Bollman,
Grace White and
Katelyn Kennedy placed seventh with a time of 12:34.18.
The NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships conclude tomorrow with events beginning at 9 a.m.
