FARGO, N.D. – Minnesota State Moorhead track & field had several new faces set impressive marks to begin the 2025-26 indoor campaign. The Dragons competed at the Dakota Alumni Classic on Thursday and Friday.
As a team, MSUM's men finished second overall with 87 points while the Dragon women placed fourth behind 40 points.
Multis
Hunter Miller would see a solid start to his season in the men's heptathlon, which took place across Thursday and Friday. Miller kicked off the year with a 7.11 in the 60m dash portion, finishing third overall. The Motley, Minn., native also placed third in the long jump, leaping 21-0 (6.40m). Miller would see seventh-place marks in the shot put with a toss of 34-05 (10.49m). After a fifth-place finish in high jump, Miller sat in fourth place with 2678 points.
On Friday, Miller would collect a fifth-place finish in pole vault behind a clearance of 11-09.5 (3.60m). Miller would place fourth in the 60m hurdle portion, finishing with a time of 8.70. To conclude the heptathlon, Miller would place second in the 1000m run with a personal best effort of 2:54.75. The performance earned Miller a fourth-place finish overall with 4717 points.
Sprints/Hurdles/Relays
In the women's 60m hurdles,
Lucea Wales saw a strong Dragon debut, marking a 9.51 in the preliminary race. The mark is just outside the top ten in school history while Wales and
Evelyn Nydegger (10.18) would qualify for the finals. Wales (9.57) and Nydegger (10.18) would place sixth and seventh respectively in the finals heat.
True freshman
Cipriana Jones turned in an impressive performance in the 60m dash. Jones clocked a 7.80 to qualify for the finals with the mark tying the sixth-fastest in MSUM history. The Moorhead, Minn., native placed seventh in the finals with a time of 7.87.
Brihonne Cargill clocked a personal best of 7.94 in the event preliminaries. Jones would also place fifth in the 200m with a mark of 25.81.
On the men's side, newcomer
Brandon Pemberton would shine, qualifying for the finals with a blazing mark of 6.95. Pemberton would improve on that mark in the finals to win the event behind a time of 6.88. The time for Pemberton now stands alone as the fourth-fastest indoor 60m in program history. Pemberton would also earn runner-up marks in the 200m dash, clocking a 22.29. That time is the 10
th-fastest in MSUM history.
In the 400m, freshman
Christalea Wagner would lead the Dragons, placing eighth with a time of 58.98. Nydegger (1:05.06) would set a new indoor best in the same event for Moorhead. On the men's side
Frosty Wisnewski (51.70) and
Dylan Harris (51.73) would place sixth and seventh respectively.
To conclude Thursday's action, the MSUM 4x400m relay team of
Aidan Fitts, Wisnewski, Harris and
Jasiah Hambira would finish runner-up behind a time of 3:29.83.
Jumps/Vaults
Women's triple jump would see two more Dragon newcomers make waves in their debut.
Allysah Larson would place fourth overall with a top result of 38-0.75 (11.60m). The leap is the fourth-best indoor triple jump in school history and sits inside the top 20 in the country this season. Larson is now only one of four women in MSUM history to triple jump 38-0 or more.
Damazvia Dames would place sixth with another strong mark of 36-05 (11.10m). The jump for Dames is the 10
th-best in MSUM history.
In men's high jump,
Jasiah Hambira would clear 6-07 (2.01m) to place fourth. An unattached
Jaiden Peraza would win the event with a major clearance of 7-0.5 (2.15m), a new personal best.
Tate Rasmussen would register a new indoor personal best of 6-05 (1.96m) for a sixth-place finish.
Moorhead would see strong showings in women's long jump, led by
McKenna Schreiber who placed fourth with a leap of 17-09 (5.41m). Freshman
Chioma Onyeaghala would earn seventh-place marks with a result of 17-0.5 (5.19m). Fellow freshman
Kaitlyn McConnell placed 11
th with a jump of 15-09 (4.80m).
Hunter Petersen would see a third-place finish in women's high jump, clearing 5-03.25 (1.61m). In women's pole vault,
Leya Teicher would claim eighth-place marks behind a clearance of 10-08 (3.25m). In men's pole vault,
Nicholas Huss would register a new personal best clearance of 14-04 (4.37m) for a third-place finish.
Noah Novotny placed fourth by clearing the same height.
Throws
Justin Jacobson would turn in a strong Dragon debut for MSUM in the weight throw. Jacobson had a top toss of 56-04.5 (17.18m) for a third-place finish. The mark also placed Jacobson in the top ten all-time in school history with his throw now the sixth-best in MSUM history.
Jack Stewart would place 11
th in the same event with a toss of 49-01.5 (14.97m).
Jacobson would also place seventh in shot put, hurling a 50-10 (15.49m). The mark is the 10
th-best indoor shot put in program history.
Kiley Kranz would pace the Dragon women in weight throw, placing 11
th with a top throw of 44-09.5 (13.65m). Kranz would also lead the Dragons in shot put, placing third with a throw of 41-09.75 (12.74m).
Distance
Rory Richardson would collect an event win in the 800m run on Thursday, marking a 1:58.11.
Preston Miller (2:00.76) and
Will Massmann (2:02.24) would earn second and third place finishes in the same event.
