Dragons See Event Wins, Solid Marks at Viking Twilight

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Minnesota State Moorhead track & field featured a pair of event groups at Tuesday's Viking Twilight. The Dragon throws group claimed four event victories at the annual meet. 

Justin Jacobson would continue his streak of event wins in the men's hammer throw. Jacobson had a top effort of 173-04 (52.85m) in his first attempt to secure the victory. Teammate Jack Stewart would finish runner-up behind a throw of 156-04 (47.66m). Ben Nyreen (43.98m) and Landon Nicholas (43.32m) would finish fifth and sixth respectively. Nicholas registered a new personal best with his top attempt. 

Kiley Kranz would claim runner-up marks in the same event for the Dragon women. Kranz held a top attempt of 147-0 (44.81m). Hailey Neumann (40.38m) would register a new personal best alongside a fifth-place finish. Kranz also led MSUM's effort in discus, finishing second behind a top mark of 122-07 (37.36m). Avah Cotton (35.53m) and Neumann (34.20m) would place sixth and seventh respectively. 

Jacobson would earn another event win in men's discus, holding a top mark of 160-0 (48.77m). Stewart (38.10m) and Nyreen (35.41m) would place fourth and sixth respectively. Ethan Morin (32.18m) would place 10th.

The true freshman Neumann would guide the Dragons in women's javelin once again. Neumann placed third overall with a top heave of 117-06 (35.81m). Cotton would place fourth with a personal best effort of 115-11 (35.34m). Morin (33.91m) would place ninth for the Dragon men. 

Kranz would collect an event victory for the Dragons in women's shot put. The Osakis, Minn., native hurled an outdoor personal best 44-01.25 (13.44m) to capture victory. Neumann (11.87m) and Cotton (11.72m) would place fourth and sixth respectively with Neumann marking a new outdoor best. 

Jacobson earned his third event win of the day on the men's side. The sophomore had a top throw of 54-0 (16.46m) to earn his sixth consecutive event victory. Logan Burns (12.34m), Stewart (12.31m) and Nicholas (11.92m) placed sixth, seventh and 10th respectively. 

In women's pole vault, Leya Teicher would register a season best clearing of 10-11.75 (3.35m) for a third-place finish.

The Dragons will compete again tomorrow as the Dragons head to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Gary Wilson Invitational. Events are slated to begin at 9:45 a.m.
