MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field teams begin their 2022-23 indoor season at the Dakota Alumni Classic in Fargo, N.D. at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. The meet is scheduled to wrap up with the heptathlon on Saturday, which begins at 10 a.m.

All events will be held inside the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Complex on the campus of North Dakota State.
Returning for the Dragon men are Seniors
Ty Dawkins,
Eric Gibbons,
Shaquiel Higgs,
Shyrone Kemp,
Kendrick Major and
Ben Oie.
Kemp was a two-time All-American in the triple jump as a junior. He placed second in the event at the NCAA Indoor Championships and third at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Kemp was also the NSIC champion in both the indoor triple jump and long jump. To date, the Jones Town, Bahamas, native is a four-time All-American.
"Since joining our team, Shy has established himself as one of the best jumpers in the NSIC and NCAA DII," said track & field head coach
Ryan Milner. "During this time, he has also experienced immense growth in maturity and leadership that has positively impacted the overall culture and competitiveness of our team."

The Dragon men were selected third in the NSIC preseason poll for the indoor season. Both Kemp and
Braxton Bruer were named MSUM's male athletes to watch during this indoor season.
"Braxton has grown more focused, more mature, and elevates his level of training and racing each year he's with our program. This led to his first NSIC Championship at 800m last season," said Milner of Bruer. "This season our team will once again look to him to be one of the most competitive middle distance runners in the NSIC."

Ashley Hokanson and
Adla Serrao.
Hokanson was the top pole vaulter in the NSIC in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Her 13-5 winning vault at the NSIC Outdoor Championships was also a new personal-best and a nearly broke the MSUM school record. Hokanson was named a second team All-American after a 10th place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
"Ashley had a stellar first season with our team that culminated with a NSIC Championship and top-10 finish at the NCAA National Championships. This fall she returned to campus even more motivated and more prepared than last year," said Milner. "The work that she's been putting in will position her to have an outstanding 2023 season."

The Dragon women were selected 12th in the NSIC preseason poll for the indoor season. Hokanson and
Robynn Curry were named MSUM's female athletes to watch during the indoor season.
"Robynn began to emerge as one of the top quarter-milers in the NSIC last season," said Milner of Curry. "Our team will be looking to her to continue to establish herself in the 400m while being the anchor of our women's sprints squad."
