BISMARCK, N.D. – MSU Moorhead track & field saw eight total event wins as the Dragons descended upon the Bismarck Community Bowl for the annual Al Bortke Open.
At the posting of final results, the Dragon men won the meet with 156 team points with host school UMary coming in second with 140 points. The Dragon women finished third as a team with 89 team points.
Sprints/Hurdles
Mickalyn Babcock and
Adla Serrao would finish second and third respectively in the women's 100m hurdles. Babckock ran a new personal best of 15.32 in the event while Serrao finished .01 second off her personal record.
Shaquiel Higgs ran a personal best in the men's 110m hurdles, finishing runner-up with a time of 16.03.
Colby Larson did the same with a time of 16.73 to finish fourth.
Higgs (1:04.73) and
Marcus Crayton (1:00.93) competed in the 400m hurdles as both clocked collegiate-best times with Crayton placing third in the event.
In the men's 100m,
Jerome Crayton took home the event win with a time of 10.96, which locks in a new personal record. Higgs finished third with a mark of 11.07.
David Daniels (11.16),
Logan Kletscher (11.17),
Elkan Johnson (11.44) and
Isaiah Johnson (11.59) all reset their own personal bests in the event as well.
Robynn Rolle-Curry won the women's 100m with a time of 11.81 which was .02 seconds off of the MSUM school record. Today marks just the second time Rolle-Curry has run the event collegiately. Rolle-Curry also won the women's 200m with a time of 24.58.
Adla Serrao ran a personal-best time of 27.33 in the same event.
Braxton Bruer, who is normally known for middle distance events, competed in the 400m today and turned in an incredible 49.89 to finish second.
Thomas Kern placed fourth in the same event with a mark of 50.26.
In the men's 200m, MSUM commanded six of the top nine placewinners, led by
Elliott MacLennan's 21.72 to place third.
Ibrahim Oduong (21.87) and
Jerome Crayton (22.06) finished fourth and fifth respectively with both registering personal-bests.
Kendrick Major (22.12),
Shyrone Kemp (22.26) and
Thomas Kern (22.28) finished seventh, eighth and ninth respectively as Major and Kemp turned in collegiate bests.
Relays
The Dragons had the only three teams in the 4x100m relay on Sunday afternoon.
Thomas Kern,
Shyrone Kemp,
Ibrahim Oduong and
Elliott MacLennan would win the all-MSUM heat with a time of 41.44. The team of
Shaquiel Higgs,
Ty Dawkins,
Kendrick Major and
Logan Kletscher came in second with a time of 42.54.
In the same event on the women's side, the team of
Shavantae Roberts,
Adla Serrao,
Robynn Rolle-Curry and
Ashley Hokanson ran a 49.32 to finish second.
In the men's 4x400m relay, the Dragons took two of the top three places. The team of
Elliott MacLennan,
Kendrick Major,
Ibrahim Oduong and
Thomas Kern won the event with a time of 3:15.20. The quartet of
Ty Dawkins,
Jerome Crayton,
Marcus Crayton and
Colby Larson finished third with a time of 3:27.82. Finally, the middle distance crew of
Braxton Bruer,
Jared Gregoire,
Lane Dullum and
Colin O'Farrell finished seventh with a mark of 3:34.86.
Throws
Katelyn Zaiger popped off a major personal-best in the women's hammer throw, tossing a 131' (39.93m) to best her previous high of 124'-06" (37.96m). Zaiger finished sixth in the event as
Codi Bunting would register a personal-best of 97' (29.57m) in the same event. Zaiger placed sixth in the women's discus with a personal-best toss of 121'-01" (36.90m).
Jordan Nolan tossed a 152'-02" (46.38m) to place third in the men's discus to place third.
Ben Oie slung a 144'-10" (44.16m) to finish sixth in the same event. Nolan also placed third in the men's shot put with a mark of 49'-07.25" (15.12m).
Jumps/Vaults
David Daniels placed fourth in the men's long jump with a mark of 21'04.75" (6.52m).
Colby Larson finished seventh in the same event with a mark of 19'-07.5" (5.98m). In the women's high jump,
Hunter Petersen and
Sophia Sowada tied for fourth as each cleared 4'-11" (1.50m). The mark was a new collegiate best for Petersen.
Ashley Hokanson cleared 11'-11.75" (3.65m) before departing from the event as an injury precaution. Still, the mark was enough to earn Hokanson the event win.
Middle Distance/Distance
Grace Dorsher would improve her personal-best time in the 1500m to 5:05.64 to finish third.
James Dorado would do the same in the men's 1500m, running a 4:01.65 to also place third.
Sophia Sowada ran the 800m and would go on to clock a new personal-best of 2:24.08 to finish third overall in the event. In the women's 5000m,
Kaelyn Berg set a new collegiate best with a mark of 18:59.76 to finish seventh,
Abbie Christen did the same in the 5000m with a time of 19:39.01 which tops her previous best of 19:55.87.
In the men's 5000m,
Joel Brault was completely dominant, winning the event by over seven seconds with a time of 15:52.25. The mark also crushed Brault's previous personal best of 16:20.37.
Colin O'Farrell won the men's 800m run with a mark of 1:56.01 as
Lane Dullum (1:57.80) and
Eric Gibbons (1:59.23) placed fourth and seventh respectively. The time for O'Farrell was a personal best.

MSUM will send a small contingent to the Drake Relays beginning on Thursday. The Dragons will also host the annual Ron Masanz Classic at Nemzek Stadium on Saturday, April 29.
