MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minnesota State Moorhead track & field saw a bevy of event wins at Saturday's Cobber Indoor Open, hosted by Concordia College. In total, Moorhead claimed victory in 11 events.
Sprints/Relays
Ahniesha Presulme would qualify for the women's 60m hurdle finals, winning the preliminary at 9.43. Presulme would also win the finals heat with a personal best sprint of 9.24. The mark now stands as the eighth-best time in MSUM history. On the men's side, a debuting
Nasir Dilworth would win preliminary action with a sprint of 8.58.
David Herath would place fourth in the finals heat, clocking a 9.43.
In women's 60m dash,
Allysah Larson would clock the eighth-fastest time in MSUM history, winning preliminary action with a time of 7.85.
Cipriana Jones (7.92) and
Brihonne Cargill (7.94) would also qualify for the event's finals. Jones would win the finals sprint with a mark of 7.86 while Larson finished runner-up at 7.93. Cargill would place sixth, finishing at 8.05.
On the men's side, Moorhead would qualify three in
Isaiah Tandoh (6.93),
Brandon Pemberton (7.02) and
Louis Sobiech (7.12). Tandoh would secure the event win in the finals with an identical time as his preliminary. Pemberton would finish runner-up with an improved mark of 6.95.
Christalea Wagner would win the 400m dash, securing a time of 59 seconds even.
Liv Birkeland would register a new personal best in a runner-up finish, clocking a 1:00.93. Cargill would win the 200m dash behind a time of 26.69 while Jones finished runner-up at 26.78.
Elkan Johnson would place sixth on the men's side, sprinting a 24.45.
In the 4x200m relay, the Dragon team of Cargill,
Hana Schutz,
Sydney Bailey and Jones would claim runner-up marks with a time of 1:49.16. To close the meet, the 4x400m relay team of Wagner, Schutz, Bailey and Birkeland would place third with a time of 4:17.25.
Jumps/Vaults
The Dragon women would own the long jump competition on Saturday, earning the top six places. Larson would claim the event win behind a leap of 17-0.5 (5.37m).
McKenna Schreiber (5.24m), Presulme (5.22m),
Tylah Pratt (5.10m),
Chioma Onyeaghala (5.10m) and
Kaitlyn McConnell (5.00m) would place runner-up through sixth place respectively.
Men's long jump saw freshman
Owen Symanietz claim an event win behind a leap of 20-02.5 (6.15m). Fellow freshman
Aidan Fitts would place fourth in the same event with a top mark of 19-05.25 (5.92m).
Leya Teicher would win women's pole vault for the Dragons, clearing a season best 11-0.25 (3.36m).
Ryen Ness earned a new personal best in a runner-up effort, clearing 10-01.25 (3.08m). In men's pole vault,
Hunter Miller would record a season best effort of 12-08 (3.86m) to place third.
Throws
Kiley Kranz would help lead Moorhead in women's shot put, winning the event with a toss of 42-01.5 (12.84m). Freshman
Hailey Neumann would finish runner-up with a top mark of 40-08.75 (12.41m) while fellow first-year
Avah Cotton placed sixth (11.47m). Kranz also placed second in weight throw with a top mark of 47-10.75 (14.60m). Cotton (12.84m) and Neumann (12.81m) placed eighth and ninth respectively.
The Dragons would claim the top three spots in men's weight throw, led by a win from
Justin Jacobson. The sophomore had a top toss of 57-07.5 (17.56m), marking a new season best and moving him to fifth in program history.
Ben Nyreen (15.37m) and
Jack Stewart (15.35m) would place second and third respectively.
Landon Nicholas (14.93m) would place fifth in the same event.
Jacobson would also win shot put with a personal best effort of 56-06.5 (17.23m) which improves on the second-best throw in program history. The performance also advanced Jacobson's NCAA provisional efforts. Stewart (12.79 m), Nicholas (12.55m) and
Logan Burns (12.52m) would place fourth, seventh and eighth in the same event.
